In 1966, England beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time at Wembley to win the World Cup for the first and only time. Geoff Hurst, of West Ham United, scored a hat-trick and Martin Peters, also of West Ham scored the other goal. England were captained by Bobby Moore, again of West Ham.
