Kevin Whately: Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, February 1951. His best known roles to date have been as Geordie bricklayer Neville Hope in Auf Wiedersehen Pet alongside Tim Healy, Jimmy Nail, and Timothy Spall, and as Detective Sergeant Robbie Lewis in Inspector Morse opposite the late John Thaw. It has been announced that filming has begun on a spin-off series, Inspector Lewis, in 2005.

John Thaw: Born in Manchester, January 1942, working class John Edward Thaw studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before his first TV role in Redcap (1964). His breakthrough role however, was in 1975, as Inspector Regan in The Sweeney. John continued to star in countless TV movies and series, as well as big screen hits Cry Freedom (1987) and Chaplin (1992), but will be most remembered as Inspector Morse (1987 onwards). He died, aged 60, in 2002 from cancer. Kevin Whatley , his Morse co-star, described him as the country's finest actor.
